Matt, in his post this week, gave an account of what we believe about who Jesus Christ is and how because of our belief in Him and what He has done for us, the impact it now has on our whole life. Both Matt and I, before even meeting each other, decided to become followers of Christ (Christians).
This, our relationship with Christ, impacts everything. Every single area of our life. Marriage and relationships included. What Matt and I had learned (and we still continue to grow towards a better understanding of because we are far from perfect), is that no person in the world can fulfill us. No person will ever meet the expectations we have for perfect love or perfect anything. Only God can. God’s intention for giving us a spouse is not to fulfill us. It is one of the big ways He completes and refines us. To create a stronger team that can serve Him better than we could on our own.
This next part is probably the most fundamental piece of why Matt and I choose to have a Christian marriage. According to the Bible, God is the creator of marriage. This is huge! God's word in scripture serves as a “blueprint” to help us to reflect His image. This is one of the purposes of marriage. That by reflecting God’s image through our marriage, others might get a glimpse of God and what He is like.
For Matt and I are to ever experience our marriage at its fullest, then living out our marriage the way God tells us to, through His Word, is the only way this is possible.
